I purchased my Logitech MX Master 3 back in 2019 shortly after it was released and use it for many hours every day, it’s an outstanding mouse. I know that these days it’s known as an MX Master 3S - I’m sure the content on this post will still apply.

When using this with any of my Windows systems, it’s perfect. I don’t install the Logitech software for it as it just works. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for my Apple systems - I’ve used this with my MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and currently my Mac Mini M4.

Since using the MX Master 3 for the first time with macOS 11 Big Sur and still today on macOS 15 Sequoia the tracking and scrolling is way off in comparison to Windows based systems - I can’t explain it. I’ve tried adjusting the macOS System Settings but was never able to get it feeling normal.

I’ve now got a routine that gets it almost perfect, I say almost as the scrolling is still slightly off but not enough that it distracts me. The tracking is perfect. If you are in the same boat with the same mouse, I’d recommend trying the following steps;

  • Download and install the Logi Options+ application
  • Download and install the Mos application

For both applications above, you’ll have to enable some system settings for them to work fully.

Once both applications are installed;

  • Open the Logi Options+ application, select the MX Master 3 followed by the Point and Scroll section. Set the Scroll Speed to 0%, Scroll Direction to Standard, Disable Smooth Scrolling and SmartShift.

  • Open the Mos application, enable Smooth Scrolling.

You should find by doing these steps that the mouse tracking and scrolling is much more improved!
